CISA and Eight Agencies Warn of Active Attacks Targeting Automatic Tank Gauge Systems
CISA, the FBI, NSA, DOE, EPA, TSA, DOT, and USDA issued a joint advisory warning of confirmed malicious cyber activity targeting US-based automatic tank gauge (ATG) systems. ATG systems monitor fuel levels and conditions at gas stations, military installations, airports, and industrial facilities — making them critical infrastructure targets. A successful compromise could disrupt fuel distribution, cause safety incidents, or provide adversaries with intelligence on fuel stockpiles. The advisory urges immediate hardening steps including network segmentation, disabling unnecessary remote access, and applying available patches for ATG controllers.
