Apple Plans Third-Party AI Model Integration System-Wide in iOS 27
Apple is reportedly planning to allow users to select their preferred third-party AI model to power Apple Intelligence features across iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27, all expected this fall. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, third-party chatbots would be able to run Apple Intelligence tasks system-wide rather than being siloed to their own apps. This represents a significant platform shift that opens Apple’s on-device AI infrastructure to external models. From a security and privacy standpoint, the change raises questions about what data access third-party models would receive and how Apple plans to sandbox model interactions to prevent cross-app data leakage.
